Preferred Unit Type
The Texas Tuition Promise Fund offers three types of tuition units to help make planning for college affordable:
- Type I: All-Texas Public College and University Units will cover the cost of undergraduate tuition
and required fees at all four-year public colleges and universities in Texas, including the most expensive.
- Type II: Texas 4-Year Public College and University Units will cover the weighted average cost of
undergraduate tuition and required fees across all Texas public four year colleges and universities.
- Type III: Texas 2-Year College and University Units will cover the weighted average cost of
undergraduate resident tuition and required fees across all Texas public two-year colleges, including junior
colleges and community colleges.
Note: All types of units can be used at 2-year or 4-year public or private, in-state or out-of-state colleges
or universities; however, the number of academic years and credit hours covered will vary from the example
provided by this calculator.
